Amerigroup Iowa and UnityPoint Health Announce Provider Agreement to Serve Iowas Medicaid Population

Amerigroup Iowa, which will serve the Medicaid population through the State’s IA Health link program, announced it signed an agreement with UnityPoint Health® today. Amerigroup members will have access to UnityPoint Health’s hospitals, home care experts, primary care physicians and specialists throughout Iowa and the Illinois Quad Cities.
UnityPoint Health is one of the nation’s most integrated health systems and employs more than 30,000 employees. UnityPoint Health’s physician-led team of professionals communicates clearly and effectively to address a patient’s health care in the most appropriate setting: whether that is a clinic, a hospital or at home. Through relationships with more than 280 physician clinics, 32 hospitals in metropolitan and rural communities and home care services throughout its nine regions, UnityPoint Health provides care throughout Iowa, Western Illinois and Southern Wisconsin.
“Our agreement with UnityPoint Health is a major addition for Amerigroup as we continue to develop and expand our provider network in Iowa,” said Cynthia MacDonald, plan president of Amerigroup Iowa. “We are working with our members, providers and the State to ensure a smooth transition in March and this agreement will enable us to improve health outcomes and offer greater access to care for Iowans.”
“Establishing this new relationship with Amerigroup enables us to ensure that the best access to health care services is available to our patients,” said Brian Jones, vice president of payor innovation, UnityPoint Health. “In partnership with the State of Iowa, it allows us to continue to provide high-quality service to some of our most vulnerable patients at UnityPoint Health.”
The Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) estimates 560,000 Iowans are eligible for managed care services. As part of Iowa’s new Medicaid managed care program, Amerigroup will serve members in IA Health Link and Iowa Health and Wellness Plan. Amerigroup will also serve the children enrolled in the State's Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa (hawk-i) program. Additionally, Amerigroup will provide services for individuals qualifying for Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) funded substance abuse services; Long Term Services and Supports for seniors and persons with disabilities; and individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
